The drummer from the clip (Chad Walls) is playing what's called for in the music, and that doesn't mean he can't play other styles. Found this on his website, www.cptkilldrums.com:
After High School, Chad enrolled in the U.S. Army to help finance a music career, and a move to LA. After 4 years in the Army and playing in several bands from a country group in Oklahoma, to a rock cover band in Hawaii, plus a short stint with the 77th Army Band in Ft. Sill OK. He went to LA several times, and visited MIT (Musician's Institute of Technology) and decided LA wasn't right for him. He returned home to Tennessee and quickly jumped back into the music scene, taking every job from classic rock, to Top 40, country and western, and blues.

He's not just playing RLRLRL or RRLLRRLL with his feet and shifting, that'd be too EASY!!! Listen to any Meshuggah and you'll hear Tomas playing broken foot patterns with a shifting hand pattern on top. He's really funky too, in a metal way. His parts are sometimes written by the guitar player, programmed and he learns them from that, presumably adding his own stuff, so everything fits together like a glove.
I read something about Ozzfest a few years ago that whenever Meshuggah played, the backstage area was crowded with members of other bands with their mouths hanging open. Guys like Ray Herrera, etc.

I like metal drumming just as must as fusion. This guy is crazy fast, but it's not my cup of tea. Derek is great, as well as Flo.
Candiria has some new stuff that sounds pretty good.
But I have to say that Mike Baker kills on Billy Childs stuff.
